Introduction to Henan Province Engineering Research Center for Crop Stress Acclimatization

Henan Engineering Research Center for Crop Stress Acclimatization is one of the Henan Engineering Research Centers in Universities approved to set up in 2008.The center has integrated related subject resources of Key Laboratory of Plant Stress Biology of the Ministry of Education of China/ Henan Province and College of Life Science of Henan University. The integration is directed by Pro. Chun-Peng Song, the winner of National Outstanding Youth Science Fund and Distinguished Professor of Henan Province. This center is consisted of 22 Research and Development staff, including two winners of National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, 6 professors, 9 associate professors, 13 doctors and more than 90 masters and PhD candidates. Currently this center has research facilities of 4000 square meters and large-scale cultivation room for plant growth, which covers 600 square meters and more than 10 hectares crop planting test field in the Henan University, the suburb of Kaifeng and Sanya City of Hainan Province. We are mainly working on crop molecular breeding and simple water conservation planting techniques as well as their demonstration and promotion, more specifically, including the construction of mutants library for maize and cotton,cultivation of stress-tolerant transgenic plants,such as maize, cotton and rape and breeding new varieties, new wheat germplasms created by distant hybridization , research on drought resistance mechanism of cotton, rape and water use efficiency (WUE) techniques,and so on. At present, the center undertakes more than 30 national scientific projects such as National Key Basic Research and Development Plan of China, National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars of China, Key Program of National Natural Sciences Foundation, Major Research plan of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, New Transgenic Crops Varieties Breeding of State Major Science and Technology.
