Introduction to the laboratory of Intelligent Technology and Systems

Henan University,March 28, 2011

The laboratory of Intelligent Technology and Systems was founded in 1997, formerly known as the Laboratory of Information Engineering. It is an important base for research and graduate students training of the School of Computer and Information Engineering. It was approved as one of the ten key open laboratories supported by Henan Province in 2009.

The total area of the laboratory is over 1,000 square meters. There are about 500 important pieces of equipment in the laboratory, the total assets of which are more than 11 million Yuan. The total research staffs in the laboratory are 24, including 13 professors and 9 associate professors. Nineteen of them hold Ph.D. degrees. Additionally, many young teachers and more than 110 graduate students also take part in research works. Under the support of government and Henan University, the laboratory has been developing rapidly. Academic exchanges and technical cooperation have also constantly developed in breadth and depth. The laboratory has established close cooperative relationships with Institute of Remote Sensing Applications of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of computing Technology Chinese Academy of Sciences, Southwest Jiaotong University, Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, and other universities or research institutes.

In recent years, the laboratory has been undertaking many longitudinal projects (their fund is more than 12 million Yuan), including two State High Technology Research and Development Programs (863 Programs); a sub-project (B0501/01-1010) "The design and system integration of high-differentiability prototype system" of State Major Projects "high-differentiability earth observation system" (The research and development fund of the sub-project in the first phase of 2010 is 2.6 million Yuan. The success for the project shows that we have taken part in the national research team and reached the forefront of the scientific research field); five National Natural Science Foundation of China; four projects from China National Space Administration and seven key projects (such as the three kinds of projects: Outstanding Youth Fund of Henan Province, Henan Innovation Project For University Prominent Research Talents and Program for New Century Excellent Talents in Universities of Henan Province) from Henan Province.

In addition to the longitudinal project research, the laboratory is also interested in the horizontal cooperation projects and provides direct services to national and local economic development. For example, the laboratory has finished a project "Integrated Information Processing Platform for Aviation Weather", which is a guarantee project of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, and the bid price is 3.2 million Yuan. The conclusion of provincial identification is "International Advanced", and was reported by media. The project was awarded the Second Prize of Scientific and Technological Progress of Henan Province.

The laboratory has published more than 500 academic papers and international conference papers, in which 130 papers are SCI-indexed or EI-indexed. It also has published more than 10 academic books and received more than 20 awards above the provincial level.

There are currently four research fields in the laboratory: spatial data processing, intelligent technology and control, pattern recognition and image processing and knowledge discovery and application. The lab is devoted to research on its own field and the research works will contribute to the developments of economy and high technology of the state and Henan Province.
