Laboratory of Environmental Change and Water-Soil Pollution Control

The Laboratory of Environmental Change and Water-Soil Pollution Control was established on the basis of the former Laboratory of Environmental Analysis which had founded in 1982. It was approved as an Open Laboratories for Key Subjects in universities in He nan Province in 2010. The laboratory is attached to the primary key discipline of He nan Province --- the Science of Geography which has the Ph.D. Station of the first level Key Subjects and one doctored research center. There are 26 researchers in the Laboratory, including an academician of the American Academy of Sciences, 8 professors (5 Ph.D. candidate supervisors), 15 associate professors, and 18 doctors. The researchers are mainly young teachers. The Laboratory is equipped with a number of high-tech scientific instruments, including the ICP-MS, the GC-MS, continuous flow analyzers, total organic carbon analyzers, laser particle analyzers and atomic absorption spectrometric analyzers.

1. The study mainly focuses on the pollution of soil and sediment in Huang-huai plain, and the object is to explore the mechanism and distribution of pollution. Results of study are to provide a theoretical basis for controlling the regional environmental pollution and planning

2. Natural Resources and Environmental Effects

Academic Leader Prof. Zhu Lianqi

The study mainly focuses on the change of land cover, water resources and ecological landscape which caused by land use in the middle and lower reaches of Yellow River. Results of study are to provide a theoretical basis for rational use of water and soil resources.

3. Global Environmental Change and Regional Response

Academic Leader Associate Prof. Zhai Qiumin

The study mainly focuses on the mechanism of environmental change with the methods of sedimentology and tree-ring study, and the object is to explore short-scale climate change regularity in the west region of He nan province.
