The Open Laboratory of Optoelectronic Materials and Devices for Information Technology of Colleges and Universities in Henan is rooted in the key disciplines of Henan province in optics, microelectronics & solid state electronics, and theoretical physics. The laboratory offers Master’s Degree programs in Optics, Microelectronics & Solid Sate Electronics, and Theoretical Physics, Ph.D. program in condensed matter physics, and post-doctoral research positions in physics.
The research in this laboratory is now focused on three main objectives: ultraviolet optoelectronics devices, materials for holography and optical data storage, design and simulation of optoelectronic materials.
The group of ultraviolet optoelectronics devices in this laboratory is currently focusing on the fabrication of ZnO quantum wells based ultraviolet laser, and studying the influences of impurities, defects, well thickness, interface state on the parameters of laser. Prof. Xun Hou, an academician of CAS, acts as principal investigator. Other members include Prof. Weifeng Zhang, Prof. Lijun Guo, Prof. Yanli Mao etc.
Recent research interests of the group of materials for holography and optical data storage are the syntheses of optical data storage materials. Researchers are currently studying the effects of processes, store environment, temperatures, humidity on the quality in optical storage. The storage capability of data is now up to 200 Gigabit. Researchers in this group include Prof. Mingju Huang, Prof. Yuzong Gu etc.
The research of the group of design and simulation of optoelectronic materials is focusing on the electronic structures and optical properties of low dimensional materials. The calculations on absorption, reflection, and photorefractive effect are performed to explore the origin of optical properties by the electronic structures. The people in this group include Prof. Yuanxu Wang, Prof. Bo Liu etc.
Currently, there are 33 people in this laboratory, including one academician of CAS, 7 professors, and 21 associate professors. 28 of them hold Ph. D. degree. The laboratory has many characterization and fabrication facilities, including UV-VIS-NIR Spectrophotometer, Steady State and Transient State Fluorescence, Confocal Laser Raman Microprobe Spectroscopy, Laser Molecular Beam Epitaxy, Pulsed Laser Deposition, X-ray Diffractometer, Atomic Force Microscope, Holographic Storage System, Z-Scan Measurement System, Impedance Analyzer, etc.
